Syrians Gathered to See The Passion of the Christ

Syrians gather Monday, March 29, 2004 in front of Al-Cham Cinema Theater in Damascus to see the film 'The Passion of the Christ.' This is the only cinema in Syria to screen Mel Gibson (news)'s controversial movie, which depicts the last hours of Jesus' life, but pirated copies of it are allegedly being circulated inside the country. The movie has drawn a hefty turnout in Syria, as some of its Christians, who make up 10 percent of the population, still speak Aramic. (AP Photo/ Bassem Tellawi)
