With the release of Android L (also known as Android 5.0 or Lollipop) there came many a delay for the newest update of Android coming to newer Android devices.  Specifically, the Sony Xperia series and its latest model, the Xperia Z3. Fortunately, the Z3 Android 5.0 L Update is on its way, and Sony will soon release its newest in the Xperia series, the Z4, soon.

Sony Mobile blog was really rejoicing for the update for the Z system today with this entry:  "Our Android 5.0, Lollipop upgrade continues from today for Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, and next week for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet - now rolling out to further markets worldwide.  Of course, the timing and availability may vary by market and/or carrier, but this is good headway in a market where the Lollipop upgrade has been very slow to be released.

Not only will the Z3 and Z2 models get their long-awaited Lollipop update, but it looks like the Xperia T2 Ultra and the Xperia C3 will receive that update, but there was no word on when this would happen.  According to the Xperia blog, a tweet from Sony Xperia reveals that the Xperia Z will also be getting its update "soon".

What can be expected from the Android L update?  Well, there will be fresh, streamlined looks based on Google's material design, new look notifications, new lock screen, multi-user profiles, guest mode, better storage control, better customization, and Android for Work.

With the addition to the Android 5.0 update for the Sony Xperia series, it has left Sony fans wondering when the Xperia Z4 smartphone will hit the market.  It was expected to make an appearance at Mobile World Congress 2015, but Ecumenical News has speculated that the Xperia Z4 will be launched at the IFA show scheduled on September 9 to 15 in Berlin.

As far as the specs of the Xperia Z4 smartphone, it looks to have maintained the signature OmniBalance design for the smartphone, with some water and dust resistance.  The display will be at 5.2 inches, and the screen resolution will be at Quad HD 2,560 x 1,440 pixels.  One feature that will definitely be on the Xperia Z4 is it will have Lollipop out of the box.

These same leaked images have some odd port flap on the left side of the smartphone, which could be for a SIM card and microSD card slots.  Then there is an odd hole at the bottom of the device adjacent to the USB port, but it is unknown what this is.  Leaked images also show that the front-facing camera and proximity sensors different from that of the Z3.

If you have any of the current Sony Xperia series of devices, then you should be constantly checking your "Settings" to see if the long-awaited Android 5.0 update is ready to download.  As for the Xperia Z4, we anticipated a release date at IFA Berlin 2015.
