WWE 2K16 Release Date: WWE 2K15 DLC Patches Update Cancelled

May 15, 2015 07:56 PM EDT

WWE 2K16 is coming soon, as evidenced by the cancellation of WWE 2K15 patches 1.06 and 1.07. Based on previous release cycles, pro wrestling fans should be expecting to see WWE 2K16 this coming fall. The next installment in the WWE 2K franchise is expected to debut on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. In the meantime, 2K Sports have not confirmed whether WWE 2K16 will be available on Windows PC.

Community Manager for WWE Games Apologize to Fans

Recently, WWE Game's community manager Marcus Stephenson apologized to players for the recent termination of all WWE 2K15 patches for the console editions.

"Hey everyone - sorry for the delay," he announced on 2K's official forum. "I have confirmed with our dev team that there will be no more updates/patches for WWE 2K15."

Stephenson added that the development team was hard at work on upcoming projects, and that all feedback on the thread would affect future progress. The final WWE 2K15 patch was originally scheduled for a March 30 release date.

Earlier, WWE 2K15 became the first title in the series to launch on PC. It is unclear whether 2K Sports will also end support for the PC edition.

WWE 2K16 Release Date May Come This Fall

Just to be clear, there is no official confirmation regarding release dates from 2K Sports. However, WWE 2K16 News predicted the game will be ready by October 2015 based on previous release cycles. The last three WWE 2K titles were released in late October. Hence, WWE 2K16 development may be following a similar time table.

However, this may or may not be good news to professional wrestling fans. Last year, untold numbers of gamers expressed disappointment with WWE 2K15 due to its various bugs. A number of critics pointed out that development seemed rushed, and that the game was not ready for release.

Other complaints focused on a variety of artificial-intelligence issues. For instance, opponent sometimes stood still when players are backed into a corner. At times, players are unable to complete ground finishers due to spatial recognition issues with the AI. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved in WWE 2K16.

So far, there has been no word from 2K Sports regarding whether WWE 2K16 will be available on older consoles such as the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Though the PC version is possible in the near future, it may take awhile before that edition is released. WWE 2K15 PC edition was not release until 10 months after the initial launch. Based on that track record, it is difficult to say when wrestling fans on PC will get to play WWE 2K16.
