Android Lolipop Updates for Moto G, X, and E devices are in the process of rolling out. So far, Motorola has only release a handful of such updates on its flagship devices. In the sections below, we will examine the current Android situation for U.S. owners of Motorola flagships.

Moto X (2nd Gen), Moto E LTE

On Monday, May 27, U.S. Cellular became the first United States carrier to roll out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen). The update will be available OTA for subscribers. U.S. Cellular is also rolling out Android 5.1 Lollipop for Moto E LTE as well.

Even though Motorola already announced Android 5.1 Lollipop for Moto X 2014, the update has only recently begun reaching U.S. consumers. AT&T subscribers will receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for their Moto X (2nd Gen) in the future. However, AT&T has yet to roll out the firmware.

Moto X (1st Gen)

The original Moto X has yet to receive the expected Android 5.1 Lollipop update. So far, the Moto X (1st Gen) has undergone a limited soak test for the new firmware in Brazil. Test results were never publicized, and Motorola maintains silence on matters regarding the update in question. It is not clear when Motorola will start making Android 5.1 Lollipop available to major U.S. wireless service providers.

Moto X will be jumping forward to the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update. Previously, Motorola spokesman David Shuster confirmed that the expected Android 5.0.2 Lollipop rollout for the Moto X (2013) was indeed cancelled.

Nonetheless, Motorola did conduct a limited-scale Android Lollipop soak test for the Moto X (2013). Even so, the Moto X (2013) did not receive the expected Android Lollipop update.

Until the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update arrives, all Moto X (2013) devices are stuck on the older Android KitKat. The official announcement on the Motorola site simply states, "This device will be upgraded to Android 5 Lollipop release of Android, pending partner support."

Moto G (2nd Gen, 1st Gen)

Motorola has yet to confirm whether Android 5.1 Lollipop will be available for the two Moto G models. Both the Moto G (2nd Gen) and Moto G (1st Gen) are running on the original Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Awhile back, TechDroider published a photo of what appears to be an Android 5.1 Lollipop running on the Moto G (2nd Gen). The photo was apparently taken in February. Still, the source was anonymous - casting some doubt on the validity of the evidence.
