When Samsung launched its newest phablets last week, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, one of the features highlighted was the support for better Qi wireless charging. Now, the company has just put up a product page for the new "Fast Charge" wireless charging pad that will take advantage of the new models' faster charging speed.
The device maker's Fast Charge accessory is now live in Samsung's official online store for $69.99, available in Sapphire Black, or White color variants.. It is currently tagged with a "Coming Soon" status and if you add it to your cart, you will see that it is currently on back-order.
As such, it does not have an estimated shipping date so you will have to wait for an indefinite number of days or even weeks before it comes knocking on your door. But if you're a fan of wireless charging and if you also plan on getting the latest Galaxy Note 5 or S6 Edge+, then this Samsung gadget may be worth the wait.
The device utilizes Qi Inductive Wireless Charging and can be plugged into a wall socket via a micro-USB cable. Samsung claims that it will deliver speedier charging times for the abovementioned models, about 1.4 times faster than what standard wireless chargers can offer. According to the company, the new Fast Charge can power a Note 5's of S6 Edge+'s battery from 0 to 100% in a span of approximately 50 minutes.
At $70 each, Samsung's new accessory is relatively expensive for a Qi wireless charger. If you do a quick search online, you'll see that other popular options like the Anker PowerPort and Spigen's Wireless Charging Pad both come with significantly cheaper prices, $13 and $27, respectively. Even Samsung's original Wireless Charging Pad, which comes at $30, is less than half the price of the new Fast Charge.
Aside from the two new models, Fast Charge is readily compatible with Samsung's other Qi-enabled handsets like the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 active, and Galaxy S6 Edge. It can also work on the older Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 4, although these devices require an additional Wireless Charging Battery Cover which can be bought separately.
That said, Samsung Fast Charge is still a Qi wireless charger so it can work with any other Qi-enabled mobile device. However, those devices will not be able to enjoy the faster charging feature intended for the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+.
