Power Rangers Release Date, Plot Spoilers, Cast; Naomi Scott Named as Pink Ranger, Search for New Team Continues

Power Rangers fans will be interested to know that there will be new faces hiding behind the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers masks and will be coming out in an official Power Rangers movie reboot.

Lionsgate Studio, Variety reports, is already auditioning new talent to recreate the power team. Among those being tested are: Daniel Zovatto ("It Follows"), Ross Butler ("Chasing Life") and Brian "Sene" Marc are auditioning for Zack (Black Ranger). KJ Apa ("Shortland Street"), Austin Butler ("The Shannara Chronicles") and Mitchell Hope ("The Descendants") are testing for Jason (Red Ranger). Meanwhile, GQ Magazine reveals that the Pink Ranger. Excitingly, Naomi Scott will play that role.

The Pink Ranger has been an iconic figure of power and attractive feminine energy. Quiet and fierce, the Pink Ranger took Lionsgate a good while before they settled on to the 22-year-old British national. Scott starred in The Martian and the TV series Terra Nova.

Variety also mentioned that Dean Israelite will direct the film. The script will be written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz while Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, and Allison Shearmur will be the producers.

Reports say that the studio may want a big name to take up the role of the antagonist.

Power Rangers was originally adapted from the cult classic "Super Sentai" series, a Japanese program enjoyed by many youths around the world. Succeeding productions ended up recycling footage from the Japanese version to save up on production costs.

Meanwhile, the plot of the upcoming movie will revolve around the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The rangers are high school kids who get extraterrestrial powers. They need to stick together for their united power to work to save the world. The Power Rangers get top props with their mechanical vehicles called Zords.

The Power Rangers had some of its early starts in the Fox Kids TV series way back in 1993. The success of the series led to the theatrical film, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, two years later. The franchise was soon renamed Power Rangers. The succeeding seasons saw new characters replace the original team. New vehicles were also featured each season. "

Power Rangers will open in theaters on January 13, 2017.
