When Holly Holm defeated Ronda Rousey for what could only be described as one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, the rumors quickly churned out speculations on a potential rematch. Rouser was prohibited from any intense physical activity following her brutal defeat at the hands of Holm. However, it looks like none of the precautionary measures from the medical experts could stop fans from asking for another face-off between the two.
As the UFC followers continue to bombard the board with requests for a rematch, Dana White had no other recourse but to give in. According to the UFC president, a repeat of the Rousey vs. Holm battle is an inevitable occurrence. White even went on to joke that not going through it might even cost him his promoter's license.
"I think that if we didn't make the rematch, me and [UFC CEO] Lorenzo [Fertitta] should probably lose our promoters' license," announced White during an interview with ESPN radio show Mike & Mike. "Yeah, that fight's going to happen. I don't know when, but that's the fight that will happen."
White then went on to explain the reason for this decision. He shared, "Ronda Rousey has gone undefeated, taken the sport to another level and was beating the best women in the world in 14 seconds or 30 seconds, so she deserves a rematch. Holly agrees she deserves a rematch, and we'll figure it out."
Before this announcement, Holm already confirmed her participation for a possible rematch. In fact, the new UFC Bantamweight women's champ finds it unnecessary for people to speculate. According to Holm, there is no other direction either woman could take at this point. That is, the second battle between her and Rousey is necessary.
"I think a rematch makes sense for sure," Holm said following her victory over Rouser. She added, "I've been on the losing side of a fight and wanted a rematch, wanted to avenge my loss. With a champion like Ronda, who has gone out of her way, above and beyond to do great things, absolutely she deserves a rematch. I think a rematch is just unspoken common sense to me."
Holm reiterated her willingness to undergo a more intense workout session to prepare herself for another face off with Rousey. She said in an interview with Mario Lopez (via Us Weekly), "I'll train just as hard, I'll train twice as hard for the rematch, because anyone who has been as successful as Ronda has obviously been a champion for a reason. She added, "She's a very dominant athlete, a very hard-working athlete, so I know she'll be coming back with a vengeance, and I'll have to be ready."
While the rematch has been confirmed, the schedule for Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey fight 2 has not been announced.
