Christmas comes once every month for PlayStation Plus subscribers always looking forward to what new games will be available for free. It has already been posted for December 2015, but many fans are still looking forward to what free games could be available for January 2016 as well as what could come earlier next year.

A recent article from Polygon provided information that PlayStation Plus gave out about $1,000 in free games this year, and no pattern was evident in them, unlike Games with Gold.

Several of the selections with Microsoft had to do with gaming franchise with new releases that year.  Like how Just Cause 2 became a free game before Just Cause 3 was launched this year.

With PlayStation Plus, there doesn't seem to be a developing pattern. Granted, Dishonored was released for free earlier this year, and it was leaked.

Dishonored 2 will not be released until 2016, with no specific launch date at the moment. Perhaps PlayStation Plus will release it again?

There seems to be a habit of PlayStation Plus seems to be good at giving away the Indie games, with the very few AAA games that were available for free this year,  It certainly worked in their favor as Rocket League became quite a big hit and a pleasant surprise after its giveaway in July.

A recent post on the PlayStation Forum has some predictions as to what free games will be available to PlayStation Plus subscribers for January 2016.

For the PS4, it will be an Amplitude remake, as well as one Indie game. The PS3 will be Watch Dogs, and this game usually surfaces when it comes to predictions for PlayStation Plus free games. Another one for the PS3 is Ragnarok Odyssey Ace. For the PS Vita, it will be Grim Fandango Remastered and Senran Kagura Shinobi Versus.

In the meantime, there is still the possibility to play these titles from December 2015: PS4 subscribers can take on Gauntlet: Slayer Edition.

Available for the PS3 is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.  Considering that Far Cry Primal is due out next year, it makes sense that this one is available. The Steam Store describes this game as "an 80's version of the future".

PS3 users can also have access to the 2012 snowboarding game, SSX, even though Snowboarding is only partially in its title (SSX stand for Snowboarding, Surfing, and MotoCross).

For the PlayStation Vita, users can access the Japanese action role-playing game, Freedom Wars.

The last free available game for the PS Vita is Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken.
