Bungie Destiny Update 2.2.0 Release Date, New Features, Weapons, and Recap of Livestream on Twitch

Mar 23, 2016 06:34 PM EDT

Considering the following that Bungie has with Destiny (in the millions) it is not surprising that the company had a live Twitch stream to formally announce Destiny Update 2.2.0.  Tim Williams (Senior Designer) and Ryan Paradis (Lead Designer) took to the stage with Deej on Twitch to have the first of three previews. This is the latest news on the Bungie Destiny Update 2.2.0 with Release Date, New Features, Weapons, and Recap of Livestream on Twitch.

The Livestream on Twitch, which broadcasted on 11:00 PDT on March 23 began with an interview with Ryan Paradis, who stated that the focus will be the new action and challenges to the game with the April update.  There is a new mission, new questlines, a new strike, and a new challenge.

"The Taken King" expansion pack ended with the death of Oryx, but now there is more with the Reef, from the "House of Wolves" expansion pack.  The Twitch broadcast showed some gameplay to show off the gear and rewards as Eververse Trading Co. have set up, and the player went to see fan-favorite Variks giving information about what the player can get into.

The first questline is added known as "Pretender to the Throne".   It involves investigating some new force who is trying to take control of the Taken.  Then there is "Return to the Prison", with a lot of rewards in the prisoner of the Elders.  You can also visit Petra Venj to get a unique quest, only available to PlayStation users.

Malak has been revealed as a Taken boss, and he has some weird shimmery effect with some interesting abilities, which you can see in the image above.  There is also the Archon priest looks different as a Taken combatant, and the "playbook has been revised".

Ted Wiiliams took the stage and showed what the director will look like after the update.  Then there was a visit to the prisoner of the elders, which can be revisited to get vanguard marks, as well as updating one's gear.  There was a pro-team (or fire-team) ready to play this, and it is recommended to play this update with friends.  There is not any competing with friends, but only for bragging rights.

Gameplay was then shown, and not only is it a scored event, but it is a timed event as well, at least on the first match.  After defeating a boss, there was another boss with the Taken Knight with severe fire-breath, a brand new boss for the Prison of Elders, a new Level 41 version.  Then they played another round, with Pilot Servitor, it can teleport and create spider-tank mines.  They died on this one, but at the end they received a Her Fury Sniper Rifle with some never-before seen modes on that weapon, with more details revealed in the next Twitch broadcast.  A cumulative score of 90,000 will get you some armor, and there will be more news on the armor next week.

Like the armor and new weapon, there will be more details revealed on the Bungie Channel on Twitch, which can be seen at 11:00 AM PDT here.  You can also find out more information about the April update on the Bungie blog here.
