The latest episode of "Arrow" bid farewell to Black Canary, a major character in the series and a member of the titular hero's team. But, in the upcoming episode, rumors suggest that Felicity Smoak, played by Emily Bett Rickards, might fill the spot on the team left by Laurel Lance.
Fans of the series know Smoak as an I.T. expert who served as the tech provider and consulter for Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen. As the show progressed, these two became a couple and she even became part of the Green Arrow's team as Overwatch after she was paralyzed from the waist down.
But then, shortly after being able to walk again, Smoak decided to breakup with Queen and leave the team.
However, given the events of the latest episode from season 4, it seems Queen and his gang need all the help they could need after the death of Black Canary. And, as teased by creators of the show, there is a possibility that Smoak might reunite with the team or Queen.
According to Marc Guggenheim, the executive producer of the show, this will be revealed in the upcoming episode "Canary Cry."
"She's broken up with Oliver and she's also broken up with the team essentially," he told TV Line. "And in episode 19, we'll see the undoing on one of those events."
Based on Guggenheim's statements, the options for what could happen to Smoak has already been narrowed down. She can either return to the team or rekindle her relationship with the show's protagonist.
But, as maintained by showrunner Wendy Mericle, this does not automatically mean that one scenario will eventually lead to the other happening on the show.
"One does not mean the other is going to happen," she said, "She could come back to the team and that does not mean that she's back together with Oliver."
Still, whatever happens, fans will surely be happy to see Smoak having a stronger role again in the show. But for now, viewers will have to wait for "Canary Cry" to premiere, which will be on April 27, to finally see what's in store for the character.
