Sam Bradford has been causing quite a stir for the Philadelphia Eagles after he reportedly said that he wants to be traded away by the team. But, since the Eagles refuse to budge, it seems that the quarterback is now threatening to retire from the NFL.
Bradford's dissatisfaction with the team began during the days leading up to this year's draft event. During that period, various reports speculated that the Eagles will select quarterback Carson Wentz as its No. 2 pick, even though it had recently offered Bradford a two-year contract worth $35 million.
Then, things between the athlete and the team only got worst after the speculations came true. And, with Wentz in Philly, sources are speculating that the North Dakota State QB will become the Eagles' starter.
This, of course, will directly affect Bradford's status in the team, who has been the starting quarterback for Philadelphia. But, instead of proving to the team that he deserves to be the main passer, Bradford resorted to a trade request.
However, it seems the Eagles is not keen on giving away Bradford, which then prompted the athlete to consider retirement. As Sportrageous noted, this will most likely not be a conventional retirement as Bradford will probably use his down-time to entertain other NFL teams that are interested in signing him.
But, NFL veteran Jon Theismann and former QB of the Washington Redskins said that Bradford's current behavior reflects his lack of passion in playing the sport.
"I cannot believe what Sam Bradford is doing with the Philadelphia Eagles," he said according to Bleacher Report. "The impression that I get is that this guy here doesn't want to compete. He's not interested in playing quarterback."
"He's not interested in competing at the quarterback position," he added. "He wants it handed to him on a silver platter. Well that's not the way life is."
Although the Eagles is aware of the fact that Bradford was surprised by the Wentz draft, the team is still confident that he will not retire nor join a different team.
According to SiriusXM Radio host Zig Fracassi, Eagles defensive end Connor Barwin said that Bradford is currently absent from Philadelphia's offseason program, he will return to the team.
"Connor Barwin: Sam Bradford was caught off guard w/#Eagles drafting QB Carson Wentz as QB," he tweeted. "Confident Sam will be back."
