2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Prototype Seen?

Henry Ford had quite the imagination to bring the automobile to the mass market, but even in his wildest dreams, he must not have figured out how far automotive technology has progressed since the first batch of Model Ts hit the road. Word on the street has it that a prototype of the futuristic 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been spotted, but is that the real deal?

Apparently, the alleged prototype 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been seen on the streets outside of Ford’s Dearborn Development Center, and you can be sure that this is one ride which will turn heads. Fan forum Mustang6G has put up a video of the alleged prototype 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which you can view below.

Sources have informed Mustang6G that the prototype 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be able to unleash a whopping 750 ponies when you put the pedal to the metal, thanks to a supercharged 5.2-liter cross-plane crank engine that is a further development of the flat-plane crank naturally-aspirated Voodoo V8 that roars underneath the hood of the existing Shelby GT350. There is also room for different viewpoints too, as other rumors do suggest that the prototype 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 could actually be a twin-turbo Ecoboost version on the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8.

Regardless of which route that Ford ultimately takes, it should have more than enough bite in the engine department in order to see the Ford Mustang name make a return to the perch of Muscle Car Hill. You can be sure that with an additional 100 hp, it will no doubt cause the soon-to-arrive Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with 650 hp and 707 hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat to quiver in its tires. If your eyes caught the massive wing that is located on the back of the alleged prototype 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, surely your pulse must be racing to see it in action in the final production model.

It is interesting to note that aftermarket tuners have managed to do a pretty darn good job at cranking out more than 800 hp out of both of those source engines, so it would not raise too many eyebrows if Ford were to be able to achieve similar figures, if not more. The thing is, if it is officially available from Ford, then that would mean you would have a greater peace of mind since there will be a warranty that comes with your purchase, compared to the non-existent warranty when aftermarket tuners are done souping up your ride's engine.

The folks over at Ford have remained mum about the prototype 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, but with the show season ready to get off the ground this November in Los Angeles, California, one cannot help but feel tingles in one's spine working their way down. After all, it is the same place where the previous generation Shelby GT500 was announced to the world three years back.
