Jensen Ackles, who takes on the role of Dean Winchester on the hit series “Supernatural,” took to social media to share an update for fans. Sharing the photo on Instagram, the actor dropped hints about the upcoming “Supernatural” season 12 finale that is set to air on May 18 on The CW.

The “Supernatural” photo features Ackles as he sits on by the waters with mountains in the background. "Backdrop for our season finale. Not shabby at all. #spnfamily,” he wrote as a caption. As the “Supernatural” season 12 finale looms near, executive producer Andrew Dabb is dropping hints about the next storylines for Dean, Sam (Jared Padalecki), and Castiel (Misha Collins).

Opening up about the relationship of the Winchester brothers with the British Men of Letters, the executive producer said fans can expect “a little strained” bond on “Supernatural” season 12. “[The British Men of Letters] want everybody dead. But as they are a massive organization and very corporate in their own way, they're going about it in a very organizational, methodical way,” Dabb explained to TVLine. “In Episode 20 [and] 21 into our end run, they start to make those moves and, to be a little vague, people that Sam and Dean know and love pay the price."

Delving deeper into the “Supernatural” season 12 finale, Dabb dropped clues of the Winchester siblings becoming “generals.” Because the boys do not have much contact with the larger hunter community, the upcoming episode could push them forward into a “leadership role.” "It's a way to take this organization and bring the fight home for Sam and Dean and force them to take a role, which they haven't done that much,” he clarified, while adding, “They're taking a much stronger role in the wider hunter community as the Brits take the fight to them."

When it comes to Castiel’s story on “Supernatural” season 12, Dabb assured fans that Collins’ character, after coming back, will shed light on the reason as to why he has been in Heaven for a long time.

After going on hiatus, “Supernatural” season 12 has returned with its latest episode that aired on April 27, Thursday, on The CW. Last summer, the network and Netflix worked out an exclusive deal in which a full season of the current “Supernatural” installment will be aired on Netflix eight days after its final episode. The same deal was followed with “The Vampire Diaries” in March when its latest season was aired on the streaming service eight days after its finale.

As announced by The CW, the network is set to wrap up “Supernatural” season 12 on May 18, 2017. As a two-hour season finale, the show will not be followed by “Riverdale” as the latter has already wrapped earlier. Fans may get to see Ackles and Padalecki’s characters dealing with the British Men of Letters or even putting a stop to the birth of Lucifer’s child.

Following the eight-day rule, “Supernatural” season 12 may get to stream as a full installment in Netflix on May 26, 2017.
