Mark 4:26-29 He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain-first the stalk, then the head then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.
1Corinthians 3:6-9 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
Have you ever sown a seed and also seen it sprout and grow? I have seen a tree grow from a sprout to a full-grown tree in my backyard. My days pass by, yet the tree I have seen was always small. Then, its height leaped up to become my shoulder height. Then, after many more years passed, the tree became so tall that I could not even imagine climbing that tree if I was still young.
If we see our life of faith growing like a tree, we cannot see ourselves grow and mature in our daily lives. Some times, we think that we are the one who realizes all things that enable us to be taller in our life of faith. It seems as though we sow and give water; many times, we are entrapped in our good works that we forget that God is the one who makes all things grow.
Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the parish in the Corinth, °I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.± Paul clearly understands that I am only sowing the seeds, giving water but that God is the one who makes it grow. In God, there is nothing that is impossible. That is why Paul constantly sows seed and begins his ministry as a wandering preacher. He sowed the seed to many cities and set ministers to water the seed; then, he set out to a different mission field. In sowing the seed, in starting good work for God, he did not fall in despair.
We listen to messages. We start a new ministry or plan to help others. We evangelize and teach others. In all things we do, we have to make the first step. Starting works with faith is very important in our lives. When we firmly believe that God will make all things grow, we will not hesitate initiating our plans. The results belong to not in the present but in the future. I hope we can all not fall in despair in many things that we do but sow and water diligently because God will makes them produces their fruit as we have seen a tree grow from a small height to a tall tree.
