New Delhi, India., Dec. 9 - Minorities living in Delhi survived a major scare when Congress prevailed over the BJP onslaught and kept the government for the second successive term as the results for the Assembly Polls were announced. For had BJP come to power, they would have enacted a legislation against religious conversion.
This was one of the major promises of the BJP manifesto for Delhi, according to highly placed sources. The manifesto was released on November 21.
Sources said that the BJP planned to have a draconic law against conversion in Delhi on the pattern of the legislation enacted in Tamil Nadu. The anti-conversion law prohibits religious conversion by fraud, allurement or coercion. Other than Tamil Nadu, such a law is already in force in Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh.
