Bible Society NSW announced on 30th March, to support theology lecturer of the Wontulp Bi-Buya College in Cairns, North Queensland. It will support funding to Rev Barry Patterson, an Anglican priest from Mossman who is responsible for theological training.

Daniel Willis, CEO of Bible Society NSW recently visited the college and said "Students come to Wontulp for periods of block teaching," said Daniel. "They live in and experience Christian community while they undertake a variety of courses from certificate to diploma level," he said.

"Each course seeks to increase the student's understanding by raising their literacy level and knowledge of the Bible. A side benefit realized by all students is a growth in personal confidence and once students return to their communities they immediately start to take up leadership roles within the church and secular community," said Daniel. "This literacy component of the training is something we at Bible Society NSW are committed to. As people around the world learn to read God's Word, we have seen this have a positive impact on their lives and the life of their community," he said.

"A month ago there were 10-12 who attended the weekly Bible studies and prayer meetings. Today they have 30 people attending these night meetings. Many young people have started coming to church and the two Anglican churches in the community are now full to overflowing. The local priest-in-charge testifies that this is a work of the Holy Spirit and is the result of many years of persisting faithfully in the Christian faith," said Daniel.
