India - The World Bible Translation Center is taking an active role in India's adult education to aid the dropping literacy rate. They will use the Word of God to teach reading in Bangalore, India.

Roger Massey of World Bible Translation Center explains, "What our Bangalore office has begun doing is, working together with the government, using the book of Proverbs and the Gospel of Mark as reading primers. They've established literacy centers, about a hundred, and as a result of that, there's people that are becoming worshippers of Jesus."

The establishment of literacy centers entails taking a literacy survey of an area and providing WBTC's Easy-to-Read Gospels of Mark and Proverbs. Once students attain a certain level of education like that of a tenth-grade student, they are asked to help in teaching other villagers.

Anti-Christian activists have responded to this educational ministry by attacking and terrorizing Christian missionaries. Massey says. "They'll be facing more opposition from religious activists who are against the message of Christ. Pray that the Lord will protect them as they go out in remote areas, that the Lord will give them boldness, and that they wouldn't shy away from what they've been called to do." WBTC provides students with black board, chalk, and the Gospel. After an individual learns to read, they are rewarded with the New Testament.
