Microsoft recently updated its Xbox One and Xbox 360 free games list for Games with Gold subscribers.
What makes the September offering unusual is that Microsoft is only offering three free games - one for the Xbox One, and two for the Xbox 360. Usually, four games are offered every month.
Even so, Xbox 360 subscribers will be getting Halo: Reach, the prequel title in the popular Halo game franchise. Players will take on the role of Noble Team, a group of Spartans tasked with defending planet Reach from the initial Covenant invasion. The story speaks of tragedy, courage, and sacrifice. Halo: Reach will be available for free from September 16 thru 30.
The other free game on Xbox 360 is Monaco: What's Yours is Mine, a top-down stealth puzzle game about a crew of thieves. Players can join up to four friends to plan for the next sophisticated heist. Each team member has his or her own specialty that is determined by the character class they choose. For instance, lock pickers can crack safes and pick locks. Cleaners are able to knock out guards with brute force. The game is available on September 1-15.
Unfortunately, Xbox One owners will be getting only one complimentary game. The sole title in the free Xbox One games list is Super Time Force, which is presented in the traditional side-scrolling format. The game follows the exploits of a military organization that travels through time to protect historical artifacts. If players are killed, they can restart at the point of death in order to change their fates. This feature is similar to the premise in the recent film Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise. Super Time Force is available from Sept. 1 to 30.
As a final reminder, Microsoft's free games offer is only available to Xbox One Live Gold subscribers. A subscription requires $60 a year.
