A remastered version of the superhero action game Deadpool originally released in 2013 will soon be available for current generation consoles. GameStop, one of the largest video game retailers, has confirmed the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports via a Twitter post on Tuesday.

Deadpool is an action comedy video game based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It was developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision.

The character was initially depicted as a supervillain when he made his first appearance in The New Mutants series. In subsequent comic book issues, he had been evolved into the role of an antihero. He is portrayed as a disfigured and mentally unstable mercenary with the superhuman ability of accelerated healing. He is also known as the "Merc with a Mouth" because of his talkative and informal demeanor.

This news comes over a year following a string of withdrawals from the three major gaming platforms: the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Valve's Steam. Aside from Deadpool, the publisher also pulled a handful of titles including Raven Software's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Beenox's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, and Silicon Knights' ill-fated X-Men Destiny and in January 2014.

The re-release of these remastered versions is also seen as a move by Activision to capitalize on related publicity brought about by the upcoming film adaptation. The Deadpool movie will come out in 2016 and will be starring Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds.

The film's official YouTube trailer already garnered more than 25 million views at the time of this writing. Deadpool has been popular among Marvel readers but this movie will finally introduce him to mainstream audiences. For those who want to know more about him, the video game will definitely show just how amusing and funny the character is.

Deadpool is also available for previous generation consoles such as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It can also be played on Windows PC via the Steam platform. The current-gen PS4 and Xbox One ports will be out on November 17 for $49.99. Interested gamers may already pre-order the game on GameStop.

Once released, the updated Deadpool game will come with all addition downloadable content (DLC) including two Challenge maps, the "GRT Plaza" and "Inside the Tower," and Deadpool's Uncanny X-Force and D-Pooly skins. Furthermore, the game's signature "Infinite Mode" will be offered, allowing players ward off huge waves of enemies without time limit.
