For some time now, it has been rumored that the Los Angeles Lakers are actively looking to trade Nick Young. According to new reports, he might end up on the Brooklyn Nets' roster with Jeremy Lin.
Young's off-court antics, paired with his low productivity on the court, has made a big target of recent trade rumors. As noted by Sportsrageous, he has two years left in his contract with the Lakers and is expected to get about $11 million from the team.
Because of this, the Lakers are looking to save money by trading him away. One of the teams that could benefit from this potential trade are the Nets.
Currently, Lin is the team's starting point guard. His backups include Randy Foye and Greivis Vasquez. However, the team is lacking proper rotation in the shooting guard and small forward spots. Although these positions are currently held by Bojan Bigdanovic and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, adding Young can bulk up the team's lineup and improve its player rotations.
In exchange for Young, the Brooklyn organization can give up a couple of its second round draft picks for the 2017 NBA draft.
Although it is not yet clear if a deal with the Nets will happen, the Lakers are serious in trading Young to lessen the distractions within the team.
Earlier this year, a feud between Young and teammate D'Angelo Russell emerged after the latter released a video featuring the former as he talked about cheating on his then-fiancée Iggy Azalea.
The video led to the female rapper breaking up with Young. It also caused tension between Russell and his other teammates.
But, according to Russell, he is willing to earn back the trust of his teammates, especially Young.
"I know if I've lost anybody's trust, I'm going to work my tail off to gain it back, because that's something you need for a winning team," he said according to the New York Post. "You need everybody to trust each other."
As for Young, he recently said that he's ready to forgive Russell for what he had done.
"We're teammates," he said according to the Los Angeles Daily News. "It's been so long, so it's kind of old. We'll be able to work it out. We've already been working it out. It is what it is. I can't be mad forever."
