The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge were high end, flagship smartphones that certainly made their mark in 2015, offering a new curved display that delivered a new styling in the world of smartphones. However, the 2015 flagship smartphones have not been quick to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, despite the latest Android version of the operating system has been around for at least half a year already. With the Samsung Galaxy S8 ready to hit the market in a few months’ time -- presumably with Android 7.0 Nougat pre-installed at the bare minimum, we do hope to see the Android 7.0 Nougat update arriving on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in the immediate future.

Samsung UK’s subsidiary has already tweeted that due to the quality of firmware (presumably, the lack of it), the Android 7.0 Nougat update has been delayed for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. This delay is to open up a window of opportunity for Samsung to look through the quality of firmware before it is released. After all, it would be rather disastrous for Samsung to give the go ahead for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge to run the Android 7.0 Nougat update if it were to cause troubles like in the case of the Nexus 6P which resulted in random shutdowns, even when there is still plenty of battery life left.
This particular delay in the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the 2015 flagship smartphones from Samsung is a clear reminder that Android suffers from a major fragmentation challenge. So far, Samsung UK has not put their foot forward to mention a timeline for the update, but did mention that at the earliest opportunity, the Android 7.0 Nougat update would be released for both handsets. If it is of any consolation to our readers, at least the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge owners would not be deprived of Android 7.0 Nougat goodness.
Right now, we do know that Android 7.0 Nougat runs on slightly more than just 2.8 percent of Android-powered devices, with Android 6.0 Marshmallow taking up the bulk of the market share. In due time, the figure will skew in favor of Android 7.0 Nougat, but that would also mean that the world would be steps closer to Android 8.0 Oreo as well. Other than Google’s very own Android-powered devices and a handful of other smartphones like the LG V20 and the Moto Z Play, majority of the other Android-powered flagship smartphones have not picked up the Android 7.0 Nougat update just yet.
However, the 2016 flagship smartphones from Samsung; the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update in stages across multiple regions. Better late than never, don’t you think so? If you happen to still use your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge, then hold out with your patience for a little while longer before you are ‘rewarded’ with some Android Nougat goodness.
