MAR10 Day: Nintendo Brings Cheer To Children on Mario Day

We humans love to celebrate milestones and special dates in our lives, and MAR10 is no different. Short for March 10, it certainly brings about a warm feeling around the hearts of many of us who grew up on a staple diet of NES and Mario-themed video games. In order to celebrate MAR10 Day, Nintendo would like to ask everyone of all ages to celebrate the rotund plumber’s day -- having made sure that his overalls remain in style for over three decades and counting.

MAR10 Day kicks off with a collaboration between Nintendo and Starlight Children’s Foundation, with the latter being a nonprofit organization that offers entertainment, education and innovative technology to children who are seriously ill and have been hospitalized. Nintendo would step forward by offering new designs for the foundation’s Starlight Brave Gowns, where the sick children will no longer have to settle for boring, old designs of the traditional hospital gown, but rather, move around in comfortable and brightly colored gowns. These new gowns will boast of characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, where one will be able to enjoy the various depictions of Mario (but of course!), Luigi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong and Yoshi.

To top it all off, Nintendo would also donate some money to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, making sure that they have the necessary funds to produce a whopping 2,000 gowns for such a time as this. Don James, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Operations, shared, “Mario puts a smile on everyone’s face, and we wanted our activities on MAR10 Day to reflect that. Whether a longtime fan or someone new to the world of Nintendo, Mario can power up anyone’s day.” Nobody has ever turned down Mario, that is for sure, and it would be very difficult to see children do that now.

Those who drop by Facebook on MAR10 Day can also make use of a free Mario-themed frame for their respective Facebook profile photos from March 10 at 5 a.m. PT, and this will continue all the way until March 12 at 11:59 p.m. PT so that you will not be able to miss a single bit. This frame will see iconic items from the Super Mario Bros. universe added to your photo or image, and can also be used within the Messenger Camera itself.

If you would like to locate the frame in Messenger, all that you have to do is to open up the Messenger app, snap a photo, before tapping on the smiley face icon. Such a special frame will then appear first in the top “Featured” section, and from there, users simply need to tap in order to add it to their photo.

As for gamers, what are your rewards on MAR10 Day? Certain digital games that will see Mario play a starring role within will have a 20% discount on Amazon.com on March 10, where the offer remains valid as long as there are supplies available. My Nintendo would also offer Mario-themed rewards throughout the day, and Wii U owners who have yet to pick up Mario Kart 8? Now’s your chance to do so, enjoying a 30% discount along the way.
