Atlanta-based band, Casting Crowns (also the fastest-selling new artist of 2003) claims the NO. 1 position on the BillboardHeatseekers chart dated March 13, 2004. For the past 16 weeks, the band's self-titled debut album (Sept. 30, 2003) has held a Top 10 position on the Heatseekers chart. It has also been NO. 1 on the Nielsen SoundScan Top Christian Albums Chart for seven out of 22 weeks at retail.
"It would be a great understatement to just talk about how enthusiastic we are about the continuing success of Casting Crowns. I am so pleased for the band, Mark Miller and Steven Curtis Chapman and everyone in our label group who we worked so hard to break this," comments Terry Hemmings, Provident Music Group President and CEO.
He adds, "I believe Casting Crowns' music is connecting with people who can relate to the challenges we all face living a Christian life. This is a very genuine group of people and I think the audience sees that and is attracted to it. The most impressive thing about this though is that Mark Hall and the band have remained grounded in their work in youth ministry and still consider that to be their primary occupation."
Honored with four Dove Award nominations, the band was recognized with nominations for 'New Artist of the Year' and 'Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year'. The No. 1 hit single, 'If We Are The Body' was nominated for 'Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year' while lead singer Mark Hall received a nod as songwriter for the prestigious 'Song of the Year' category.
