1 Kings 17:1-6 (NRSV)
Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word." The word of the LORD came to him, saying, "Go from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. You shall drink from the wadi, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; he went and lived by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the wadi.
My God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
- Philippians 4:19 (NRSV)
JUST before spring we were hit by a sudden spell of severe weather. Snow obliterated every recognizable landmark, and a bitter wind howled around the house. Seeing the birds flutter anxiously about in a fruitless search for food, I sprinkled some crumbs and seeds on a dish and dug my way out to the garden. Accustomed to searching out worms, berries, and insects, the birds welcomed my unusual provision.
God provided for the prophet Elijah in a very unusual way; it was the birds that brought food to him. After Elijah warned King Ahab of the imminent drought, God told Elijah to hide near the Kerith Ravine and promised to send ravens to feed him.
However difficult or unusual our situation, God is faithful and able to provide for us. God supplied all Elijah's needs as he "did what the LORD had told him." When we walk in obedience to God's will, God supplies our needs.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your promise to supply all our needs according to your glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Amen.

In what ways has God provided for me?
