The U.S. supreme court unanimously ruled against an atheist father’s challenge to remove the “one nation under God” phrase from the pledge during a hearing held in Washington D.C., June 14, 2004.
The decision effectively overrides a prior lower court decision to strip the phrase from the pledge, which 9.6 million American children recite every day.
