Cardinals vs. Red Sox World Series Game 2 Preview

The Red Sox gave the St. Louis visitors a wake up call in World Series Game 1 with an 8-1 victory over Cardinals. Left-hander Jon Lester shut out St. Louis for 7 2/3 innings, giving up just five hits and a walk. Out of the 112 pitches he threw, 76 were strikes.

Despite all that went wrong for the Cardinals in Game 1, it was just one loss. Their all-star Carlos Beltran, who hurt his ribs crashing into the right field wall catching David Ortiz's would be grand slam, received a good report from X-ray and CT scan.

However, the World Series 2004 Cardinals vs. Red Sox matchup showed a similar start of Boston pushing across 11 runs in Game 1 win at Fenway. Boston won again in Game 2. And the Cardinals never recovered, leaving the Red Sox to the championship.

This time around, NLCS MVP Michael Wacha will take the mount Thursday night. In three starts this postseason, he has allowed only one run. Although he is only 22-year-old, he already has 12 MLB starts.

The Red Sox will use John Lackey, who shutout the Tigers in ALCS Game 3 with 6 2/3 scoreless innings.

If the Cardinals cannot turn the momentum to their advantage in Game 2, this could be an unexpectedly short series.
