Going into Week 16, the Falcons have had a rough season with only 4 wins but 10 losses. Their quarterback Matt Ryan has put up solid stats with 22 touchdowns at 3,887 yards and 14 interceptions. Compared with SF's quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has 18 touchdowns at 2,690 yards, Ryan has performed considerably well. However, the Falcons have struggled so far this season and they are currently standing at No. 3 in NFC South, while San Francisco is No. 2 in NFC West, just below the Seattle Seahawks.
In the Week 16 Monday Night Football matchup, the Falcons has a slightly higher average in total yards per game (341.5) than the 49ers (316.1). Meanwhile, Atlanta is significantly stronger in pass yards per game (262.2) than 49ers (179.1); however, 49ers has a much stronger rush yards per game stats (137.1) than Falcons (79.3).
49ers' running back Frank Gore and Kaepernick have together put down 11 rush touchdowns with roughly 1,500 rush yards. Their power-running plays have pushed their team many times down to the end zone, resulting in their wins, including over the recent win against the Seahawks in Week 15. In addition, tight end Vernon Davis has put down 12 touchdowns at 49 catches.
Although Ryan have excelled in his pass plays, the Falcons have are myriad of issues - he has been playing without wide receiver Roddy White and Julio Jones for much of the season. Ryan has been sacked 34 times and hit 81 times, which are one of the worst numbers in the league.
While the 49ers are preparing their last game at Candlestick Park to stomp on Falcons, the Falcons is most likely working on their defense to protect Ryan from 49ers Ahmad Brooks, Aldon Smith and Justin Smith.
If Falcons' offense continues at their current performance level, San Francisco will most likely emerge as the winner in tonight's Monday Night Football game.
