Today, the NSW Legislative Council overwhelmingly defeated the Green Party Euthanasia Bill by 28 to 4 votes. As the vote was overwhelming, the ALP ministers were not required to vote.
A previous Green Euthanasia Bill was defeated by 26 to 9 on 23/03/2002.
The current Green Bill was a backdoor method of introducing Euthanasia by a referendum on a Euthanasia trial for a period of 18 months.
The ALP and Coalition particularly opposed the Bill because it involved heavy expenditure for a referendum.
I was very pleased the NSW Upper House rejected the Green Party Euthanasia Bill, as we need to protect everyone, especially the aged citizens of our State?said Rev Fred Nile MLC, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party.
