'Orange Is the New Black' Season 3 Release Date, Spoilers: Coming to Netflix in Mid 2015

Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" was an instant hit when its first full season premiered last year, and the second season was equally well-received over the last summer.  The question is what can happen now in Season 3, coming in mid-2015, especially when some of the stories of the inmates at Litchfield Penitentiary are very open-ended.

There is the subplot involving Daya and her baby, who is speculated to be ready for delivery by the end of Season 3.  The idea of raising a baby while in prison will be explored, especially with the twist of the father being a prison guard.  Meanwhile, the other guard "Pornstache" believes that he is the father of Daya's baby, and Mary Steenburgen has been cast as his mother.  Steenburgen's character could end up wanting to take care of Daya's baby while she is in prison, which will create a lot of custody issues.

The nine months of Daya's pregnancy could be covered in the show's usual 13-episode season timespan, but there has been rumors that there could be a "time-jump".  This means that all of the other characters' stories could be propelled further than they would have been in previous seasons, creating a lot more intrigue amongst a show with quite a large cast.

There have been reports of a new character being added named "Berdie" Rogers, played by actress Marsha Stephanie Blake.  "Berdie" will replace "Pornstache" as one of the head guards, who was hauled off to jail after being accused of impregnating Daya. It is not known how much impact his character will have in Season 3.

Another rumor about Season 3 is that Vee, a villain from Season 2, might actually be coming back.  This seems strange since Vee was ran over by a van driven by escapee Rosa.  Considering that Vee was ostracized so badly by the other inmates that she was compelled to escape, it is not known what will happen to her when she comes back, presumably in critical condition.  The fate of Rosa, who has terminal cancer, will hopefully be revealed, but it is not likely to be a happy ending.

There will probably be more development with Piper, who is still the main character and inspiration for the show in spite of the many plotlines around the other inmates.  Piper's girlfriend and betrayer Alex will be making a comeback, even though she was curiously absent for most of Season 2.

The one element that "Orange Is the New Black" creator Jenji Kohan has revealed is that season 3 will be "about faith, to a certain extent".  There is also talk about having more "steamy scenes" with the actresses, making the show's controversial content even more controversial.
