PlayStation Plus Free Games December 2014: Title Predictions for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

The end of the month is approaching, which means that a new crop of free games is getting ready to be announced for the PlayStation Plus Network! While nothing has been officially revealed yet, we took a look at our best predictions for what's coming in December for PlayStation Plus members.

First off, we already know some of what's coming for both December and January, thanks to a blog post on the official PlayStation blog back on November 4. The post promises Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition and Secret Ponchos for December and inFAMOUS First Light and The Swapper for January.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition is a boosted version of the popular DC Universe fighting game from NetherRealm Studios. The Ultimate Edition adds six new characters, over 30 new skins, and 60 new S.T.A.R. Labs Missions.

Secret Ponchos is an indie game for the PC and PS4 that is best described as an online shooter/fighting game. You play as an outlaw in a Western-themed world fighting other players in online duels to gain reputation and notoriety. This inclusion on the PS4 will mark the game's official release on December 4.

As for the rest of the list, we can only speculate based on what's been given out to PlayStation Plus members already. Of course there will be plenty of indie games, and we know that five classic hits will be coming to the PlayStation Now streaming service on December 2, including Mirror's Edge, Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 3, NBA Jam On Fire Edition, and Bejeweled 3.

While the streaming PlayStation Now network can be used in conjunction with the concoles themselves, we're going to say that at least one of those games will hit the PlayStation Pluis members for free to help promote the service that launched in July. And of those games, either Mass Effect 2 or Mirror's Edge would make the greatest impact, so we're putting our money on one, or even both, of those.

In addition, Driveclub PS Plus Edition was already meant to come out in October, but was cancelled due to server lag issues. "We want you to know that we're committed to providing DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition to members when it's ready, and the Evolution team is working hard to make it a reality," Senior Manager of PlayStation Digital Platforms Matthew Harper said in a blog post.

Driveclub PS Plus Edition is the PlayStation exclusive edition of the racing game first released on October 7. Because of detrimental problems with the game's online servers, World Wide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida spoke up about the delay of the free PS Plus edition.

"We are also very conscious that we have disappointed so many of you who were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition," Shuhei said in a statement. "Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing Driveclub. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice."

Our best guess is that the mention of Driveclub in the latest PS blog entry means that they're getting close with that free edition release. So close, in fact, that we're guessing that it may be out in time for the December free game offerings.

Look for the PlayStation Plus free game list to be announced some time next week.
