'Scandal' Season 4 Spoilers And the Disappearance of Olivia Pope

Nov 25, 2014 06:16 PM EST

Scandal recently finished its mid-season as its main character, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) has suddenly gone missing.  By missing, we mean that she has most likely been kidnapped by parties that have yet to be revealed, although there is a lot of speculation.

This episode was full of surprises as the episode kept its audience wondering if Olivia would confront her father.  Then it was about what Olivia would do when she met Rowan Pope (Joe Morton), possibly even harm him.  As it turns out, Rowan became furious, and there is a lot of speculation that he could be as angry as to make his own flesh and blood vanish.

According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, most people will put their money on the Vice President and his cohorts.  After all, Vice President Andrew Nichols (Jon Tenney) confronted President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) at the end of episode 9, saying: "something precious has been taken from him".  Fitz seems to have some kind of breakdown, which means he probably knows that it was Olivia who has been stolen from him.

Nichols has recently been caught with a steamy affair with Elizabeth North (Portia deRossi).  Before Olivia had disappeared, Elizabeth had entered Olivia's office with photos that showed Cyrus (Jeff Perry) and Michael (Matthew De Negro) in something of scandal.  Olivia intends to warn Cyrus of the photos, but it is too late, as Elizabeth already released the photos to the media.  Clearly there will be ramifications for this, with or without Olivia.

Considering that this show has been talked about around water coolers everywhere, it certainly has led to speculation about where the show can go.  It is interesting to see all of the titular occurrences that take place within the White House, but is there anywhere that this can go after a certain time?  As for what the characters are going to do in the second half of season 4, audiences will have to wait until sometime in 2015.

Before Season 4 began, Scandal's producer Shonda Rhimes told the Hollywood Reporter that "the show will go back to focusing on its core cast after seeing its world greatly expanded as President Fitzgerald Grant rand for re-election and the supporting cast was broadened to help accommodate star Washington, who was pregnant with her first child during Scandal's abbreviated 18-episode run".  It is interesting if Washington will be absent from the second half of season 4.
