'Halo 5: Guardians': Site of HuntTheTruth Could Signal a Release Date for the Holiday Season

Mar 20, 2015 05:09 PM EDT

With all the anticipation that has generated over Halo 5: Guardians, it is expected that a lot of information would surface on the Internet about it, some of it filled with made up information.  However, a website known as HuntTheTruth has shown up on Tumblr and has got a lot of attention. It looks like it is counting down to what could be a confirmed release date for Halo 5.

The HuntTheTruth site isn't much to look at, as it is just a countdown clock with a bullet that is engraved with the word "Traitor".  It does have the Halo 5: Guardians logo, but what is it counting down to?

Sure, this HuntTheTruth could be a fan-made site, and just wanted the Halo 5 logo just to increase its views.  However, GottaBeMobile has reported that 343 Industries franchise head Frank O'Connor confirmed that this was a genuine post on Twitter.

Since we know for sure that this site is legit, then we can expect something on March 22nd at 18:00 PT.  The buttons on the bottom of the site will allow users to add the HuntTheTruth announcement to their calendars on Outlook, Yahoo, and Gmail.

So what will be the big announcement when that clock hits zero?  Most likely, it will be a release date for Halo 5, which is exactly what the fans want.  If that release date is set for this Fall, then Microsoft and 343 Industries will really be satisfying player demands.  It will be likely that the game will make an appearance at E3 (a massive gaming conference held every summer annually in Los Angeles), which will really generate the hype train for a holiday release.

Those unfamiliar with video game worlds have at least heard of Halo, the massively successful video game franchise that Microsoft designed to put the Xbox on the map, and it has had four massively successful iterations.  Two years ago, at E3, Microsoft announced a new entry in the Halo series, and Halo 5: Guardians had its third and final week of beta testing last January, and it focuses a lot on multiplayer experience in an arena-like atmosphere.

The release of a new Halo offering is very important to Microsoft now, as it will be the first time a Halo game will be on the Xbox One, and will probably be only on the Xbox One.  This will make the Halo 5 game exclusive to Microsoft's current-gen system, and will undoubtedly sell many copies of the game and the system for the holiday season if released in the Fall of 2015.

Halo 5: Guardians is is available for pre-order on the Halo Way Point site.  The game is set to include a post-Halo 4 Master Chief (an iconic character from the Halo series games), and Spartan Locke is asked to go after the iconic character in a plotline that is involving the intergalactic mythos of the franchise.  The Halo 5: Guardians game is planned to be released along with a TV series on Showtime that will be produced by Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott, according to Tech Times.
