Considering that Marvel is having a really good track record with its Avengers films, it was pretty obvious that another Thor movie would be made.  So far, there has been confirmation that Hulk will be making an appearance, as well as the possibility of three female Marvel characters.  This is what is known about Thor 3: Ragnarok Release Date and News.

According to Screen Rant, Marvel Studios brought in a new director Taika Waititi to handle Thor: Ragnarok, as the screenplay for the Thor's third solo movie, written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, is too dark.  Considering that the film's subtitle refers to a great battle from Norse mythology that will result in essentially the end of creation and the death of the gods, it does seem a departure from the tone of standard Avengers movies. Taika Waititi, who is also an actor that appeared in DC's Green Lantern movie, is known for directing more comic features, while Patty Jenkins, the director who was slated to direct Thor: Ragnarok, is well-known for her very heavy drama Monster

So far, the story is going to involve Thor heading to the Valkyries, and it looks like Hulk will be with him.  The Hulk deliberately took himself off the radar after Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it looks like he will be Thor's partner in this film.

There are reports that Valkyrie, or Brunnhilde, a character from the comics will be making an appearance.  She was actually considered for a role in Thor: The Dark World, and there is even some concept art for her as well.

Yahoo Movies also says that another famous female character from the Marvel Universe, the Enchantress, could be making an appearance.  The Enchantress is a sorceress super-villain that is also comes from Asgard, and her appearance in the film would be welcome.

Speaking of female characters, it is well-known that the Thor in the comics is no longer male.  In fact, she is Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman in the films.  Will Thor: Ragnarok attempt to bring this character to life?  If so, that will be a hard secret to keep before the film releases.  If that happens, then Chris Hemsworth will no longer be playing the Norse God of Thunder.

It is pretty clear that Thor 3: Ragnarok will need to address the set-up that was given at the end of Thor: The Dark World, where it is revealed that Thor's god of mischief half-brother Loki is alive.  Not only that, but he is in disguise as Odin and sitting on the throne of Asgard.  There are also scenes in Avengers: Age of Ultron that foreshadow a very dark time for Asgard.  So perhaps the events of Ragnarok will unfold because of Loki on the throne and a battle to get him off the throne?

As it happens, Thor: Ragnarok will not even appear in theaters until two summers from now on July 28, 2017.   It doesn't look like that the character will have any involvement in Captain America: Civil War, which is set to debut on May 6, 2016.
