The ordeal of Lamar Odom appears to be far from over. Reports reveal that the husband of reality star Khloe Kardashian is expected to take approximately six months to recover from the effects of the drug and alcohol abuse he engaged while checked in a Nevada hotel. It could be recalled that the former Los Angeles Clippers star collapsed following days of partying inside his hotel room. This abusive behavior on the part of the NBA star eventually almost cost him his life as October 13 saw him getting rushed to the emergency room in a frantic attempt to save his life.

While the news of his near death experience shook the lives of his friends and family members, Lamar Odom miraculously recovered and is now seeking treatment to help his body deal with the aftermath of the three-day alcohol and drug binge.

"Obviously there is a lot of attention about all this but the thing to remember is that there is a long road ahead to rehabilitation," said Jim Harrick, referring to the current condition of Lamar Odom, according to USA Today. The former college coach of the ex-Los Angeles Lakers star further shared, "This is serious stuff. It could be six months or more for rehab and all that. We don't know what state his kidneys and lungs are going to be in."

Meanwhile, a source told Us Weekly that the NBA star can now "say a few words." However, Lamar Odom has yet to reach the point where he can utter complete sentences. The insider added, "He's doing a tiny bit better, but he has a very long road back to full recovery - if that." Although Lamar Odom is displaying positive signs of recovery, the doctors looking after him have yet to officially declare the NBA star fit and well. In fact, the experts are still in the process of determining the extent of the damage brought about by the drug and alcohol abuse. Despite the seemingly bleak prospect, the doctors are confident that the former Los Angeles Clippers player will eventually get back his motor skills.

If anything though, the incident brought something good in Lamar Odom's life. Sources revealed that the NBA star and estranged wife Khloe Kardashian decided to put a halt on their ongoing divorce proceedings. Needless to say, the two remain married despite years of separation. The decision to do so cost the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star her relationship with Houston Rockets player James Harden.

"Lamar's fine. He's in much better condition than he was when he first arrived," shared an insider with Hollywood Life. The source added, "Khloe's been his support system and pretty much brought him back to life with her undying commitment and love. These past two weeks have been trying for both Lamar and Khloe. But through it all, their bond is strong and unbreakable."
