‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Release Date from CD Projekt Red; No Appearance At E3 2016

It is no secret that CD Projekt Red has made one great acclaimed game with Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.  The game is getting some downloadable content (DLC) that will focus on the last adventures of Geralt, but what is in store for the company after that?  The follow-up title is Cyberpunk 2077, but it looks like the game will be delayed.  This is what is known about the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red.

Twinfinite reports that a financial report from CD Projekt Red reveals that Cyperpunk 2077 will not appear at E3 2016.  E3, otherwise known as the Entertainment Electronics Expo, is a huge video game event that takes place every year at the Los Angeles Convention Center during the summer.  Not having the latest game appear there is sending a signal to players that the game is delayed.

So why will it take so long to complete this game?  CD Projekt Red has revealed that Cyberpunk is a "huge game with a magnitude much greater than The Witcher".  Considering that The Witcher has a huge open-world and a very flushed-out universe that is saying a lot.  It is no wonder that the studio has "amazingly large ambitions" for it.

The game has a cinematic trailer that you can see below, and there really isn't much to be seen on it.  There isn't really much known about the game other than it is based on the Cyberpunk series of tabletop role-playing games.

The term of cyberpunk has been used to describe a subgenre of science fiction in a dystopian future setting where megacorporations rule and technology has outgrown humanity.  The trailer has this style all over it with buildings that rise to challenge the heavens and everything is either stale gray or neon bright.  These are worlds where the police appear less as public protectors and more storm troopers who are the hand of some terrifying authoritarian society.

It's pretty clear that the trailer has an influence from Blade Runner with the flying car, which looks like what Harrison Ford drove in the 1982 film.  There is also a Matrix influence with bullets flying out of guns in slow motion, but why the heroine of the story can resist them is not revealed.  Too bad players will need to wait a very long time to find out what the game is all about.  The vast futuristic world of this game will occupy gamers for days, weeks, or even months, from the looks of it.

A report from iDigitalTimes states that the game will not arrive until 2017, and that the game will launch on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC sometime within the next four years.  CD Projekt Red is also working on another AAA RPG, but they have not released the title.
