Mark Driscoll the former pastor of the Mars Hill megachurch has formed a new church and its followers are scheduled to meet for the first time on Easter Sunday. According to the pastor, the new building for the Trinity Church was "supernaturally provided" by God.
As reported by Premiere, the new facility, called the Class and Garden Drive-In Church, is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. According to a statement from the Trinity Church, the contract for the building was just recently finalized.
The organization noted that the congregation's first meeting on Easter Sunday will also mark the 50th anniversary of the building, which was built during the same day in 1966.
"Even though it's last minute, as the ink on our rental contract is still wet, we look forward to meeting you at our modest open house and prayer meeting," the Trinity Church said in a statement. "Pastor Mark will be sharing our church vision as we begin gathering our launch team."
Pastor Driscoll noted that the Glass and Garden Drive-In Church is very different from the other churches he's seen before. He even said that some of the children of the church's followers likened it to a spaceship.
Details about the new church are still unknown but Driscoll said that he and the Trinity Church have been looking for a facility that can accommodate over 1,000 people. He also believes that the organization was able to secure the church with the help of God.
"Like most older church buildings, this one needs some service projects and financial investment to make it a good home, but we are excited about its potential," he said according to Premiere. "We know that God has gone before us, preparing an opportunity to minister."
"This building provides a wonderful opportunity for our mission," he added.
Before becoming a pastor for the Trinity Church, Driscoll used to serve the Mars Hill Church in Washington from 1996 to 2014. However, two years ago, he resigned from the megachurch after several members of the congregation accused him of abusive behavior, bullying and other charges.
Also, earlier this week, former members of Mars Hill Church filed a lawsuit against Mark Driscoll at a U.S. District Court regarding the donations they made to the church. According to the plaintiffs, they donated a total of almost 100,000 to the church, King 5 reported.
In the lawsuit, they accused Driscoll and other leaders of the church of misusing the funds. They noted that some of it may have been used to pay off a marketing firm in California to promote Driscoll's "Real Marriage" book.
Driscoll, however, maintained that the allegations against him are not true.
