With at least three teams reportedly vying to snatch away Colin Kaepernick from San Francisco, various sources are speculating that the quarterback will eventually leave the 49ers. But, based on new rumors, it seems the San Francisco team is not yet ready to let go of the 28-year-old athlete.
Over the past few weeks, the buzz about Kaepernick joining a new team kept NFL fans guessing as to where he will end up for the 2016 season. As noted in various reports, the tree main teams looking to get the quarterback into their respective rosters include the Denver Broncos, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.
Based on the current statuses of these teams, it seems the Super Bowl 50 champion has the most to gain in a deal with Kaepernick since in just one month, it lost its starting and back-up quarterbacks.
However, according to CSN Bay Area's source, none of these teams, including the Broncos, have shown much urgency in negotiating or pursuing a trade involving Kaepernick. This means that there's still a strong chance that the quarterback will remain in San Francisco.
Aside from the insider info provided by the anonymous source, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly has recently hinted that Kaepernick will most likely stay with the team for the 2016 next season. He also noted that he didn't believe that it was the quarterback himself who said that he wanted to leave the 49ers, as suggested by the recent rumors.
The buzz about Kaepernick leaving the team began after he was benched mid-season in 2015 due to various surgeries. This then reportedly led to a rift between Kaepernick and Kelly.
Then, as last season ended, his agents asked the 49ers the permission to trade Kaepernick to a different team.
But according to Kelly, these rumors are not true and if it was solely up to Kaepernick, he would stay in San Francisco.
"I'm a big Kap fan," he said according to ESPN. "I deal with him as a football player, and he's been great."
"I talked to Kap two days ago," Kelly added. "We had a good conversation. That's the business side of this game. And whatever that is, that is. If he's here on [April 4], we'll be ready to go."
Kelly also said that Kaepernick told him that he's getting excited for the new NFL season since he believes his physical condition is improving.
