The fourth and latest season of the political drama "House of Cards" just came out earlier this month. And, as viewers went through its last chapters, they were treated to the ups and downs of Frank Underwood's presidential campaign.
Throughout the show, Underwood, portrayed by Kevin Spacey, has used his cunningness and Machiavellian ruthlessness to claim the highest seat of power in the U.S. Starting out as South Carolina's representative for the 5th congressional district, Underwood steadily clawed his way to the position of Vice President through his vicious manipulations and strategies, Bustle reported.
Then, after becoming the second most powerful man in the country, he went after President Garret Walker by successfully orchestrating his impeachment. This then led to Underwood becoming the President of the United States.
However, as the fourth season rolled in, Underwood was faced with the difficult challenge of running for a second term. Throughout the season, the show featured how Underwood and his camp utilized various methods and plots, including an assassination attempt, to overtake the other candidates in the election.
But, as a cliffhanger, the fourth season ended without a clear resolution as to who will be the next Potus. Although it would seem that he has already beaten his opponents Heather Dunbar and Will Conway, Underwood's chances of becoming president became murky after an article exposing his true nature went public.
Of course, this means that the fate of the main character will be revealed as the fifth season rolls in, which is expected to premiere sometime next year. But, it is not yet clear when exactly the show will reveal who will be the next POTUS.
But, as Christian Daily pointed out, this could happen mid-season. After all, since the fourth season ended with the Democrats and Republicans on an even playing field, the start of the fifth season could, once again, focus on the two sides as they both try to regain the support of the public.
Given that the focus of the upcoming season will be the results of the election, this means Underwood could either win or lose. If the former happens, then the show could proceed with the character having absolute control over the entire country. But, if he loses, the show could focus again on his rise to power.
