The ending of Agents of SHIELD season three is filled with heartbreaking choices, action-packed scenes and two major deaths. The third season also revealed Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) is not the director of SHIELD anymore and someone took over his position. With a shocking turn of events, viewers are now beginning to speculate who might be the new director.

A report from Hollywood Reporter gave suggestions about who might be the next director, which will be introduced in the Agents of SHIELD Season 4. Some of the names that appeared are Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), Anne Weaver (Christine Adams), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders).

Nick Fury is definitely one of the most ideal candidates for the position. However, casting Samuel Jackson in the next season could become a problem for the show's budget. The actor is a big name in Hollywood and that means a big amount of money has to be released. In addition, it could have major implications on the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On the other hand, Maria Hill may be the right person for the job. She previously worked as SHIELD agent even acted as Deputy Director of SHIELD for Fury. On top of that, everyone trusts her and she has the right morals and work ethic for the position. It is not too far fetch to see her as SHIELD Director in Coulson's absence.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that say Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), also known as Quake, will go down to a much darker road in Season 4. In the finale of Season 3, she is on the run after the horrible death of Lincoln Campbell.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chloe Bennet says Daisy will show her willingness to work with Hive again. the tragic death of Campbell and the after effects of Captain America: Civil War will force her character to become "darker".

In the 6-month flashforward, viewers learned that Daisy is in a bit of destruction and the newspapers have been calling her as Quake. It is not yet clear if she will become a "hero or rogue."

As for the overall story of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4, Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Jemma Simmons) said the next season will be filled with tragic turn of events and it will push the boundaries of characters. She said that during her appearance at the recent MCM London Comic Con, as per report from Digital Spy.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC on Sept. 20.
