Xbox Live Gold Free Games for October 2016: 4 Free Games Coming Your Way!

Sep 26, 2016 09:12 AM EDT

Are you an Xbox Live Gold subscriber? If you have answered in the affirmative, then I am quite sure you would have taken advantage of the free games that have been released at the end of each month. The Xbox Live Gold service would cost you approximately $60 each year, but the free games that are released each month will certainly add up to be a whole lot more than that.

Of course, not all of the released free games are titles that would catch your fancy. While you might not play all of them, you would certainly find at least one title each month worth checking out. Those who are rocking to the Sony PS4 have a similar service known as the PlayStation Plus, but that is a story for another time.

At the end of each month, the folks at Microsoft are generous enough to offer a couple of games for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles. With the wonders of backwards compatibility, one will also be able to enjoy the two free Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One itself, which essentially mean Xbox One owners will enjoy four free games every single month as opposed ot two.

Of course, if you do not own an Xbox One at the moment, you are still able to redeem your free games either on Xbox.com or the Xbox 360. Hence, if you were to pick up the Xbox One some time down the road, you can look up those titles in your account and go ahead with a free download.

October’s not too exciting though in terms of the free games offered. Perhaps you might be better off enjoying the planning of the upcoming Halloween parties that will certainly be a feature at the end of the month. Let us look at the proverbial gift horse in the mouth this time round, shall we?

Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings will be arrive on the Xbox One, where it will be available throughout the month of October. With an original sticker price of $20 a pop, it is certainly worth checking out if you are a baseball fan, otherwise it would be all right to give this a miss.

Up next would be The Escapists, which will be revealed some time in October 16 all the way to November 15. I suppose this is all right if you have had enough of baseball action from the beginning to the middle of the month. The Escapists is a pixel-art game that will pit cops against criminals in such an adorable manner, going to show how imagination still runs riot among game programmers. All you need to do is plot your escape from prison -- with the tools at hand, of course.

MX Vs. ATV Reflex is the next free title for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and this once $30 title will be available only in the first half of the month as it delivers off-road racing to your screen. This 2009 game would definitely show its age, but I suppose it is one way of going ”retro”, if you will. At least the game’s physics have a dose of realism as the track gets more and more torn up with each lap that passes by.

Last but not least, the $15 I Am Alive is available from October 16 all the way to Halloween. It is a post-apocalyptic title that sees a man trying to get in touch with the rest of his family one year dwn the road. It will pit your skills against the rest of desperate humanity, but it will not carry the suspense of The Last of Us.

Are you all set for your October free games with Xbox Live Gold?
