NFL Rumors: New York Giants to Trade For Carolina Panthers’ Fozzy Whittaker as Shane Vereen’s Replacement

Due to Shane Vereen's injury that could possibly end the season for him, the New York Giants could turn to signing another signing another running back who made headlines a couple of days ago. To get a new RB, the Giants could enter a possible trade deal with the Carolina Panthers for Fozzy Whittaker.

On Sunday, the Giants suffered a loss to the Washington Redskins. Many attributed the loss to the fumble made by Vereen, who also made the same mistake in Week 2.

Following the game, the team confirmed that Vereen made the mistakes due to an injury. However, given the nature of his injury, the running back could end up sitting out the rest of the 2016 NFL season.

As confirmed by the team, Vereen has a triceps injury that requires surgery. But, going through this procedure will most probably sideline him for the rest of the year.

"Shane is a tremendous football player," Giants coach Ben McAdoo said during a conference call. "Our thoughts go to him with that tough injury. I feel for the player. He's a good football player, and I wish him a speedy recovery."

Vereen is not yet on the team's injured reserve list, but his name is expected to be placed there within the next few days.

With him out indefinitely, the Giants will certainly turn to their remaining running backs to run the ball. They could also promote someone from the practice squad.

But, if the team wants to improve their stats in the league, they could turn to another running back through a trade with another team. This could be Whittaker from the Panthers.

Whittaker is the Panthers' current backup running back but gained significant public attention in Week 2 after he was brought in to replace the injured Jonathan Stewart.

During the Panthers' recent loss against the Minnesota Vikings, Whittaker was able to rush for five times for 22 yards with an additional five catches for 34 yards.

However, despite his performance, he was soon replaced by Cameron Artis-Payne.

Since he is still a backup, the Giants could enter an easy trade deal with the Panthers for Whittaker. In return, the New York team could offer one or two of its quality backups or a draft pick.
