Star Wars: The Old Republic Trailer Oozes With Potential For New Movie

When Disney bought over the rights to Star Wars, people were left wondering whether this was the end of an era. Thankfully, that is not the case as what we have seen with Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. Movies are not the only things that the Star Wars franchise is all about, as it is virtually a goose that lays golden eggs, where even the presence of Jar-Jar Binks is unable to stop the awful Episode I from being a box office bomb. It is nice to see that the sheer richness of the Star Wars expanded universe is showcased in the latest Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer.

It does look as though some of the more riveting original stories that unfold in the Star Wars video games would be those that hail from the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online RPG) title known as Star Wars: The Old Republic. This particular title will come with a spanking new expansion pack in December, where it is called Knights of the Eternal Throne. Just take a look at the trailer below and you will know how such a simple trailer is worthy enough to end up as a movie by itself.

A picture can speak a thousand words, and in this cinematic trailer, not too many words are required -- if at all. The sheer emotion conveyed through the various characters and their facial expressions are top notch work, although nothing can compare to that of an actual human, of course. It does leave one wanting more clues to be revealed, as the theme of a child turning to the dark side has been explored in the past.

There is one particular weapon in the trailer that certainly provokes the thought -- it does seem to pack the features of a lightsaber with a staff, a hybrid of sorts. Not only that, the kind of armor worn would make any servicemen proud with its shiny bits and pieces, not to mention Force-sensitive students who are training in what is the Jedi version of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The storyline takes place a while after the Battle of Odessen, where the Outlander led the Alliance in a massive battle against Empress Vaylin. In the process, the Outlander and their Alliance do discover new worlds while risking their lives in dangerous undercover missions so that they can play a role in taking over the Eternal Throne. Vaylin grew up from a sweet young child to an Empress who has turned to the power of the dark side, which is something that broke the heart of her mother.

It is certainly an interesting thought that I am sure is not lost on the folks over at Disney, where the sheer richness of the Star Wars expanded universe will be able to deliver many more hours of pure entertainment to the masses. Perhaps it is refreshing that there is a disconnect from the mainstream characters, focusing more on the everyday life of a galactic Empire resident who is simply trying to make ends meet while stumbling upon the Force in a magical way.
