On January 27th, "A Dog's Purpose" hits theaters, and promises to warm your heart when the weather's cold.

Based on the #1 New York Times bestseller of the same name, "A Dog's Purpose" is a tender and inspiring family-friendly film that shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog, Bailey, who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.

The story is narrated by Bailey, (voiced by Josh Gad), who begins his life as a golden retriever. Bailey's best friend is a young boy named Ethan (Bryce Gheisar). Like all good dogs, Bailey remains Ethan's loyal companion - rarely leaving his side through his teenage years, even through Ethan's first love. However - cue the waterworks - Bailey dies of old age. However, he is reincarnated as a German shepherd police dog, and over the years continues to come back, living many lives as many different breeds.

"If I can get you licking and loving, I have my purpose," the dog says in the trailer.

Starring Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton and Britt Robertson and directed by Lasse Hallström ("The 100-Foot Journey"), "A Dog's Purpose" highlights the importance of familial bonds, the importance of every living thing, and the unconditional love we have for our best friends.

The film from Amblin Entertainment and Walden Media will be distributed by Universal Pictures. Screenplay by W. Bruce Cameron & Cathryn Michon and Audrey Wells and Maya Forbes & Wally Wolodarsky.

With a PG rating, the film is suitable for families to watch together. Grab some tissues, and watch the trailer below.
