Xbox Live Games With Gold January 2017: Free Games For Everyone (Xbox One, 360)

Jan 12, 2017 05:13 PM EST

They say that membership has its privileges, and we certainly do not discount that. For those who are Xbox One or Xbox 360 owners, here is some food for thought. You might want to look into an Xbox Live Games with Gold subscription this January 2017 which will net you a total of four free games every single month without question. Of course, Xbox One owners would be able to enjoy the quartet of free games, but Xbox 360 owners are limited to just two titles since the remaining two titles would be for the Xbox One. This January, the two titles that are available for the Xbox One would be World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap and Killer Instinct Season 2, while using its backwards compatibility capability to enjoy The Cave and Rayman Origins. Bear in mind the different titles will be released at different times throughout the month via your Xbox Live Games with Gold subscription, so please ensure that your calendar is up to date with the happenings. The best part of all this is, you are able to retain the games that have been downloaded and installed even though you decide to cancel your Xbox Live Games with Gold subscription some time down the road. Isn’t that just wonderful?

Heck, even better news is, those who do not yet own an Xbox One account but happen to be in possession of an Xbox account will be able to obtain the games for free. If you are in such a situation, all that you need to do is to sign into the Xbox website, pick up the title's listing page, and then go ahead and redeem the offer. Should you decide to pick up the Xbox One down the road, then game(s) will then be displayed under the 'Ready to install' list.

World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap
For the entire month of January 2017, Xbox One owners will be able to enjoy World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap. It will not be so much an action adventure game like the Castlevania series from Konami, as developer Neocore has positioned World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap as some kind of tower defense inspired game, despite having roots in the action RPG franchise. Just think of it being a dungeon crawler like Diablo in certain aspects, alongside another part being Defense Grid. However, there are still remnants of its action RPG roots, offering plenty of treasure to pick up as well as different class systems to help add spice to the gameplay.

Killer Instinct Season 2
What was once meant to be a Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat killer failed miserably in the past, but it looks like this title is back for more punishment. Killer Instinct Season 2 will be available from 16 January all the way to 15 February, where it was released as an update to the Xbox One-exclusive free-to-play fighting game earlier on. Back again for a month, there will be another opportunity for one to add up to nine new characters while enjoying a greater depth in the storytelling process.

The Cave
From the start of this year till January 15, one will be able to enjoy this platformer known as The Cave. There are seven different characters to choose from, and each of them have their own storyline that will develop as the game progresses. Having the choice of just three in a team while playing the game, you can be sure The Cave is worth playing multiple times over in different team combinations to milk the title for all that it is worth.

Rayman Origins
From January 16 all the way to the end of this month, Xbox owners can enjoy Rayman Origins for free. What else is there to say about this 2D platformer that will let you learn more about how Rayman began? Have a friend over to enjoy some 2-player co-op play for some social fun.

What do you think of this month’s “loot” where Xbox Live Games with Gold is concerned?
