Verizon Rolls Out Android 7.0 Nougat Update for The Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge

Do you own the Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge smartphone while being a Verizon subscriber? If you have answered in the affirmative, you would know that this is an aging smartphone, with the Samsung Galaxy S8 being the latest flagship device from the South Korean conglomerate. However, this does not mean that support for both handsets have ended -- no sir. It is still good with some miles left in their proverbial legs to go, what with Verizon preparing to roll out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 as well as Galaxy S6 edge.

Basically, if you own either device while rocking to Verizon, you should already be receiving the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update through a notification or alert. Do bear in mind that such roll outs happen in stages, so if you have not yet received such a notification, it pays to be patient. It might take a few more days before everyone on the network receives it. Alternatively, there is the manual method of obtaining the update if you simply cannot wait long enough for the Android 7.0 Nougat update. All that you need to do is to check out the Settings menu, scroll all the way down to About Phone, before hitting on Software Update within that menu. It is all about patience, really.

In terms of what this particular update offers, it is a no brainer that Android 7.0 Nougat is about to make an appearance on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge on Verizon. Needless to say, this would translate to a rather large update in terms of size -- we are probably looking at something which would easily pass the 1GB mark. In other words, it would be highly advisable to make sure that you have at least 50% of battery life left on your handset, not to mention enough storage space to stash away the download.

Apart from that, we would recommend you download the update via a Wi-Fi connection in order to save your data quota. Oh yes, do make a backup of your data along the way, since you can never tell whether something might go awry. Early reports of those who have made the jump to Android 7.0 Nougat have been relatively positive though, but you never know when Murphy’s Law might strike.

Now that your Galaxy S6 and S6 edge on Verizon would be rocking to Android 7.0 Nougat, it is time to fully explore all of the different changes and new features that accompany this new operating system version. You can now enjoy multi-window performance, an improved Doze Mode for a better battery life despite heavy usage, as well as several specific changes made to the Samsung UI. We love the fact that the new battery management page makes life a whole lot easier when it comes to optimizing power levels regardless of the time of the day, while shutterbugs will love the new preview screen for filters and effects -- essentially enjoying a WYSIWYG lens. Once update, expect the software version to show build NRD90M.
