Chris Evans’ Captain America Portrayal Is About To End

Superhero movies have been raking in the dough in recent years, and with Marvel’s cinematic universe being a major cash cow for the comic book company, you can be sure that this trend is set to continue further. The wonders of modern day CGI have managed to turn characters like Captain America into an acclaimed superhero who actually looks good in his rubber suit. Chris Evans is the modern day face of Captain America, first appearing in The First Avenger before making a return in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which culminated with Captain America: Civil War, while managing to sneak in a couple of performances in the two Avengers films.

Well, previously, he played the role of yet another Marvel superhero: Johnny Storm, who is also known as the Human Torch in Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. However, those Fantastic Four movies have failed to capture the imagination of the masses, and have been largely considered to be failures by many in the movie industry. However, it seems that Chris Evans’ run as Captain America in the Marvel cinematic universe is about to come to an end, with the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War alongside its sequel most likely be Evans’ final appearances in donning the special suit while carrying the shield that Tony Stark’s father created.

Evans shared with the Telegraph, “I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter. They said they had so many other characters to fit in — Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man — and couldn’t get them all into one movie.”

Hence, this has made Evans lay down a marker in his acting career, by agreeing to play the role of Captain America for a few more years. It is a pretty good deal actually when you think about it. Not only do you have to conform to a fitness regime so that your body remains buffed, you are most probably going to end up with more than a decent payday along the way. After all, putting his signature on the dotted line would be a fitting end to his role as Captain America, as Marvel Studio’s executives know that wrapping everything up is in order, otherwise the audience would most probably suffer from a degree of superhero fatigue.

However, we do not know what would happen to Captain America on the silver screen once Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel are completed. Would Captain America die, or would the Marvel cinematic universe take on a different direction and look toward other less popular characters? Guardians of the Galaxy was certainly a gamble, and to see the two movies be hits are pleasant surprises. One would have thought that a more established superhero ensemble would have been a better seller, but what do I know?

Now that Chris Evans has clearly cemented his role as THE Captain America in moviedom to date, it would take a disastrous performance from him in the upcoming two Avengers films in order to sully his reputation. Matt Salinger’s outing as Captain America in the 1990 movie was a bomb, and is best consigned to the history heap. Chris Evans has made Captain America cool, and it does help that his boyish good looks and upright moral attitude in the movies have accelerated his popularity.

We look forward to see what other kinds of projects would Chris Evans indulge in post-Captain America, and hopefully it will be something that will challenge his acting skill set other than being yet another pretty face.
