On Sunday July 3rd, Arlington Chinese Church will be holding the "Social Responsibility Seminar," highlighted by the passage from Matthew 5:14 - "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden." The seminar will start from 12:45pm to 3:30pm. Rev. Thomas Wang is invited to speak during the event.

The seminar will be addressing the responsibilities of citizens in their nations, and the importance to be free from ignorance but actively participate in the current social situation and what the Chinese Christians can do as citizens and residents of United States to prevent to tackle these issues.

In the past week, string of incidents occurred in Spain and Canada which place them among the 3rd and 4th nation to legalize gay marriage. The incidents alarmed the evangelical Christian community and has brought forth strong revokes to the decisions. Rev. Wang was also recently interviewed by our reporters on this subject. In a phone interview with Emily Yang, the director of the seminar, she mentioned that the seminar will not be directly related to the recent events, but will address deeply on the root of why these incidents have occurred. She said that Christians in the past have not stood strongly on the social morals and ethics, and majority took the notion that Christians they should not be involved with politics, and thus became ignorant to the changing society.

She believes that responsibility for the society rests on everyone who lives in the nation. "Whether its citizens or residents, to the generations to come which will inherit the nation, both has the responsibility to speak out and participate in forming and deciding the direction of the society." She said.

Mrs. Yang continued that the Christian community should not stay silent and allow the society to fall to secularization, rather each has the responsibility to let one another know the importance of problems faced today and put it into action.

Arlington Chinese Church has held similar conferences previously this year. During April, ACC held the "Sanctity for Life Seminar," addressing the issues of abortion, and later on May 29th, "Sanctity of Marriage Seminar" was held regarding traditional marriage and the social challenges it faces today.
