Bangalore, Karnataka, India., Dec. 10 - Christmas spirit filled the auditorium of Bishop Cottons Girls School as over 50 choirs from churches and educational institutions last Sunday participated in a singing competition to usher in the Advent to mark Christmas.

Cutting across denominations and religious barriers, the choirs evoked a festive mood with Christmas carols and special numbers. For many, the spirit will last even after Yuletide.

The choirs took part in a singing competition organised by the Rice Memorial Church to celebrate White Christmas.

Schoolchildren, college students, professional choirs and the audience tapped their foot to good music and cheered the participants. The highlight was the choir from C.E.Z.M. Urdu School. The group of girls, though from different faith, performed in the true spirit of Christmas.

The competition had four categories - Sunday schools, churches, institutions and professionals.

Among the other choirs at the event were United Mission Degree College, Bishop Cottons Girls School, Mitralaya Girls School, Hudson Memorial Church and All Saints Church.

Keeping with the true spirit of Christmas, that of caring and sharing for humanity, Bishop Cottons Boys' School hosted a "fellowship lunch" on Sunday. Over 5,200 underprivileged persons from 58 organisations, including children and oldage homes, orphanages and special schools, took part.

"It is a time when, in thanksgiving for the blessing received, they turn to spread the true message of Christmas," said Principal A. Ebenezer for the Cottonian Family.

Among others present on the occasion were Minister of state for primary, secondary and vocational education, Hon'ble B.K. Chandrashekar, and Rev. S. Vansanthakumar, Bishop of Karnataka Central Diocese.
