SHILLONG, India - For the first time in the history of Meghalaya, the majority Christian community and the Hindu minority gather to celebrate a united Christian programme on December 21.

"Christmas is a time when we focus our hearts and minds on the great gifts of God to his people - the gifts of love, peace and goodwill. We need to take steps in order to receive these gifts," said Bishop P Lyngdoh, president of the Shillong Khasi-Jaintia Church Leaders' Forum (SKJCLF) said while inviting the general secretary of the Hindu Central Puja Committee (CPC), JL Das.

Lyngdoh continued the invitation, "it is never too late to re-orient ourselves that these gifts of God may be experienced by us in our day-to-day lives. Let us celebrate together the love, peace and goodwill that God offers to us all."

The CPC received the invitation gracefully, deciding for all representatives of the major hindi committees to participate in the Christmas program. The delegates will first gather at Barik Point, then proceed on to Calvary.

In the spirit of Christmas, the CPC has further decided to distribute gifts and food packages in the city of Barapani on Christmas Eve. They will present gifts to orphans in Laitumkhrah on New Year's Day as well.
