The artwork of international renowned Chinese Christian painter, Dr. He Qi, was well received by the congregation of a local church in the cigarette-industry town of Winston-Salem, NC.

"I do think my art is very appreciated by American church people here," said He Qi, in a telephone interview with the Gospel Herald, Monday evening.

Known for his usage of vibrant colors and contemporary painting styles, that blends traditional Chinese customs and painting techniques, He Qi is now considered China’s most famous Christian artist.

Since his career started in 1983, He Qi’s Christian works have been featured on BBC television, Asian Week, Christianity Today, Upper Room, Augsburg Fortress and The World Daily, alongside various publications.

He Qi’s works have been exhibited in Kyoto, Hong Kong, Geneva, and Hamburg, besides several cities in the United States and China.

He became one of the first Chinese citizens to earn a doctorate on religious art since the Cultural Revolution.

In China, He Qi is a professor with the Nanjing Union Theological Seminary and a tutor for master candidate students at the philosophy department of Nanjing University.

The artist has also found success as an intellect in the United States, currently staying as the Paul T. Lauby artist in residence at the Overseas Ministries Study Center in New Haven, Conn., and a visiting scholar at Yale University.

Some of He Qi’s works was featured, Monday, at a special lecture held at Wake Forest University, a local Winston-Salem Christian university.

He Qi said that he was happy to "share his works with the American people," who live in a society "based on an immigrant culture that can accept other cultures."
